I Didn't Cry....But I Wanted To

Recently I made some caribou stew in the crockpot. There was some left over, so I just pulled the ceramic insert out of the cooker and stuck it in the fridge. Two days ago I came home and found that someone (who shall remain nameless), was eating hot stew and the ceramic insert was sitting on the stovetop burner. I said, "Did you heat that up on the burner?" Nameless said, "Yes, is that a problem?" I said, "Yes, it's not made to be heated up like that, I'm surprised it didn't got lucky this time I guess." There was some left over, so after it cooled I stuck it back in the fridge.

Today I had a bunch of misc. leftovers, so I pulled the ceramic insert out of the fridge and added the leftovers to the stew. Wow, I thought, that is going to be amazing stew!  Then, I opened the fridge door, picked up the ceramic insert from the counter and something terrible happened .....

The bottom fell out of it. Obviously the direct heat from the stovetop HAD affected the ceramic insert. It was a terrible mess.....a lot of it even went under the fridge.

The ceramic insert was in two pieces with a clean chips missing.

In a situation like this there is only one thing to do....

Even Kitty got in on the action.

What would you have done?

  1. Same, had this happen with a large glass beverage dispenser i had just poured punch into. Picked it up to take it outside & bottom fell out!!! Wow impressive stcky mess over the entire kitchen! To top it off i cut my hand on the glass when trying to clean it up! Wasn't my day.

  2. Cried!! And let the dog eat it. I think my favorite part of having a dog is how she cleans the floor after the kids have eaten. I am always afraid of my ceramic insert breaking...will you be able to get a new one? Or I suppose it's probably easier for you to just get a new crock pot. Very sad.

  3. I'm just going to get a whole new one. I would like one that I could regulate the temperature. I have a recipe where you need to cook something at 160 for 4 hours and this one wouldn't cook that low. I was just flabbergasted....stood stock still with my mouth open in shock and then grabbed my phone to snap photos....didn't even can see stew on my feet!
