Primroses

One of the big projects I needed to tackle before winter sets in was to tidy up the perennial beds and mulch them with seaweed.  Well, I didn't get it done before that jag of freezing weather.  I have a lot of primroses in my perennial beds and they do not freeze well...

Actually, they freeze just fine....they don't thaw out well!  They act just like lettuce does when it freezes and then thaws....it turns into a pile of mush!  Fortunately, when the weather warmed up again it was quite dry, the leaves did not get mushy, and last week I was able to get them all cleared away.

And then Carolyn and I headed to the beach to gather seaweed....

Lucy enjoyed licking out the buckets that had previously held spent brewery grain.....

Now the perennials are tucked away, mulched with seaweed, snug as a bug in a rug until next Spring!
