Last Day

Today was the last full day I had to work in the garden.  The boat comes in tomorrow at about noon and then all of my attention will be focused on turning it around for the next trip.  I hope I spent the day wisely...I always think I could have done more.  There were quite a few visitors and phone calls to work around, but I did manage to plant some potatoes.  Potatoes do REALLY well here and I have only grown a few in the past, so I am hoping to get a good crop in this year.  I did not have enough time to build the row I was planning to put them in so I just planted them in some pots which I can set in the row after is it built.

Potatoes are really popular here now with all sorts of colors, shapes, flavors and textures. I love the purple one and the orange ones the best.

I've read that it's good to surround them with straw, so I "borrowed" some from the duck hutch.

Then I topped them off with compost.

I hope they grow!

While my friends Ken, Monique and Ardele were here we all went over and checked out the asparagus bed to see if it is coming up yet or not, and look at what we found!!!!!

I simply can not wait to eat some of this asparagus!  It's so tender and sweet!!  Connie and Levi better not eat it all, they better save some for me!!!

I quit early this evening because I was invited to be the guest speaker on the local radio station (KCAW) garden show by one of the hosts, Molly Kabler.  Here she is on the far left with the crew, hard at work.

Thanks for inviting me to be on the show Molly, it was fun!

And when I came home....Connie had banana muffins ready!!!

I'm taking the evening off. We are going to watch a movie and I am going to eat more muffins than I should.
Life is good.

  1. Cool! I am hoping to plant a group of my potatoes in straw also this year and am hoping they do well.

  2. Yay! Things are looking good. Plus I believe you will be leaving it in great hands. Enjoy the time on the boat.
