An Interesting Day

Today was very busy.  First I headed out to my friend's house again to finish her project.  Then I used the fish plant's flatbed truck to help a guy who came over to load up some very large scrap metal pieces that have been in our yard for years.  Working on my curb appeal!  One thing about this business is that if you are not careful your place can really start to look like a cluttered mess.  A large percentage of my time is spent cleaning up after myself to keep the place looking somewhat presentable.  I could really improve in this area!  One of my routine maintenance curb appeal projects is to clean up the netting fence area.  The rocks that hold the netting in place are on the gravel to allow the ducks complete access to the flowerbed.  They tend to collect leaves all winter so this time of year I like it all cleaned out so that dirt does not start to form in the gravel.

During the process I also weeded and cleaned up the flower bed that runs the length of the fence.  It feels great to have that project done and gives the driveway a neat, tidy appearance.

The worst thing that happened today was that a stray dog wandered onto the property and I had a very unpleasant interaction with its owner - my first bad pet owner experience and I hope it never comes back!

Here are some pictures of the flowers that are just starting to bloom... pulmonaria..

 ...primrose type 1...

...primrose type 2...

...primrose type 3...

Once these type 3 primroses open up all the way they will form perfectly round puff balls.

Tulips...

...crocuses...

...hellebore...

...chionodoxa...

...grape hyacinth...

...and of course daffodils...

I don't have a large amount of flowers on the place because I like to use the bulk of the space for vegetables, but you always need some flowers!  They bring in pollinators, they're easy on the eyes and they're good for the soul.

  3. You do such a great job--love the flowers-so colorful and make a garden look so good. I feel like I need a lawn makeover--Flower beds here are full of grass and weeds!!

  4. There are so many different types of primroses. They grow really good here! I guess that means they like acidic soil and lots of rain.

  5. I'm so glad you identified your flowers! I now know what two previously unidentified plants in my yard are! And one of them I think I bought from you a couple of years ago at the farmer's market :-).
